About Us

Madras Cafe Books (MCB) is a
full-service, quality bookshop together with a relaxing cafe serving delicious
home-made food, great coffee and plenty of other drinks, including wine & beer!

We have a love of what we do, and aim to bring that to our customers and provide
them with a pleasurable bookshop/cafe experience.

Hours of opening are:

Monday to Friday 8 am to 5pm (Kitchen closes at 4 to 4.30pm)

We close on Public holidays, and from Christmas to 18th January, over Easter & some other days - February 5th for example.

The bookshop has a wide-range of stock, as you'll see by browsing the website,
with an emphasis on the literary end of fiction, and books of scholarship in
many other areas - history, politics, religion, health, art &
design, science, New Zealand books, business, and so on. Plus some humour, and
poetry and...well, heaps more.

David and Wendy Ault have between them 68.221 years of bookselling experience, and a
deep-seated love of books and the process of providing them for others to enjoy.

The bookshop offers an effective special order system - we can track down your
book and quote on price and delivery times - and can sometimes source out-of-print
books for you.

The Cafe is open from 8am weekdays, and serves all-day breakfast options and a
wide range of dishes, including vegan and gluten-free options. Practically all of our food
is made on the premises (some of our menu is on the web site) and is completely & utterly delicious!

We use Hummingbird organic, fair trade coffee (OOMPH!), and pride ourselves on our quality
presentation & taste.

Phoenix Organic juices (bottled), Charlies juice & various teas are also
available, as are wines & beers.

Our aim is to develop our business in harnass with our customers, and to provide
and pleasurable experience for our customers and ourselves!

Events & Catering

MCB is a venue for various events - book launches, poetry readings, talks,
business presentations, music concerts....

If you would like to be informed of future public events either check our site
or ask to be placed on our email mailings.

If you have an event and would like us to quote of hire and/or catering, please
contact David or Wendy Ault with your requirements.
