Twenty-nine year old Oscar Devlin has grown comfortable, bored and resentful of his position in his father's business in Auckland. So when he learns that Rex, international racing car champion driver and his favourite uncle, has died in a car accident leaving him a quarter of a million dollars including a gas station in the small town of Port Lawrence, Oscar drops everything to head south. Seeing himself clearly for the first time he considers just who he really is. Soon a reinvented, far more passionate Oscar emerges. Along the way he falls in love, re-opens the investigation into his uncle's untimely death, takes on an international oil conglomerate and discovers Rex's last great passion - a water-powered car that he had been woprking on in secret before his death in increasingly suspicious circumstances. Stefan Lewis is the pseudonym of a 39 year old New Zealand author. He is the writer-in-residence at van Asch Deaf Education Centre in Christchurch. Lewis began writing after a career as a freelance film-maker and an African Safari guide. He is an officer in the New Zealand Police Force.
