Description

The most difficult aspect of learning to draw is knowing how to translate a three-dimensional object, landscape or figure in front of you onto the two-dimensional plane of a piece of paper. The conflict is between customary perception - how we use our eyes everyday - and aesthetic perception - how we use our eyes to draw and paint. Through a series of six exercises, John Torreano uses a technique of demonstration, questions and answers to explain why this conflict occurs so that students can avoid common mistakes and build the confidence to draw with flair. Unconventional though John Torreano's technique may seem, it is a tried and tested method that he has used with great success in his teaching practice over the last twelve years.
